For suspected or confirmed magnesium deficiency, dosing is age- and weight-based; renal function, levodopa, sugar content, pregnancy/lactation status and adverse effects materially change the risk–benefit assessment.

High-risk exclusions

Renal contraindication

CrCl <30 ml/min: severe renal failure; do not use.

Age restriction

<6 yrs contraindicated in children under 6 years.

Drug interaction

Levodopa do not take together with Magne B6.

Pediatric threshold

6+ yrs & >20 kg minimum label population for pediatric tablet dosing.

How to take it: split daily dose with meals

Population Tablets/day Elemental Mg/day Vitamin B6/day Administration
Adults 6–8 288–384 mg 30–40 mg Divide into 2–3 doses, taken with meals.
Children >6 years and >20 kg 4–6 192–288 mg 20–30 mg Divide into 2–3 doses, taken with meals.

Daily magnesium and vitamin B6 totals are derived from the per-tablet content: 48 mg elemental magnesium + 5 mg pyridoxine vitamin B6.

Key finding 1 · recommended dose

6–8 tabs per day in adults; children over 6 years and >20 kg take 4–6 tablets/day. Divide into 2–3 doses with meals.

Key finding 2 · do not use

CrCl <30 ml/min contraindicated in severe renal failure; also contraindicated in children under 6 years and with levodopa.

Key finding 3 · formulation detail

115.6 mg sucrose per coated tablet; clinically relevant for diabetes counselling and rare sugar-intolerance syndromes.

Who should avoid or use caution

Do not use Severe renal impairment, defined as creatinine clearance below 30 ml/min; children under 6 years; concomitant levodopa.
Renal caution Moderate kidney impairment increases magnesium accumulation risk; consult a doctor before use.
Pregnancy / lactation Pregnancy: use only if necessary and on a doctor’s recommendation; if use is necessary during breastfeeding, stopping breastfeeding is recommended.
Diabetes / sugar intolerance Each tablet contains 115.6 mg sucrose; assess total daily sucrose exposure and rare hereditary sugar intolerance.
Interacting medicines Do not take with oral tetracyclines, phosphate-containing products, calcium salts, iron ions or quinolones because this may reduce effect.
Treatment endpoint Stop supplementation once blood magnesium normalizes; reassess if symptoms persist despite appropriate use.

Safety essentials

Adverse reactions Possible gastrointestinal symptoms such as diarrhea or abdominal pain; skin reactions or allergy can occur.
Overdose risk Risk is highest with impaired renal function; hypermagnesemia may cause nausea, hypotension, CNS depression, respiratory depression or cardiac effects.
Storage Keep out of reach of children; store at a temperature not above 25°C; do not use after the expiry date.
